Farina ( Semolina ) Dessert ; in Turkish Irmık Helvası
2/3 cup Farina (or semolina)
2 tbsp olive oil
2/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup whole milk
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup raisin
1/4 cup currants
2 medium size pear
1/3 cup apple sauce
1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)
1/4 cup almond (optional)
How to make the dessert?
Peel the pear with a vegetable peeler and remove the seeds. Diced one pear, shred the other one. Set them aside. In a heavy bottom deep pot add olive oil and farina.
In a medium heat stir frequently the farina until becomes light brown in color. Add sugar, milk , pears and apple sauce. Cook in low heat for about 30 minutes, stir often. Then add raisins and currants in the pot. Mix well. Sprinkle cinnamon and let simmer for about ten more minutes. Make sure that the farina is fully cooked and the mixture is absorbed all liquid.
Serve warm and sprinkle sesame seeds and put almonds on top.
Farina is a cereal food, frequently described as mild-tasting, usually served warm, made from cereal grains. Farina and Semonila are similar to each other and they carry same basic ingredient but different sizes and textures.
Semolina is the coarse, purified wheat middling of durum wheat used in making pasta, and also used for breakfast cereals and puddings.
